Special to the PRESS
For a second year in a row, the Laguna Madre Water District (LMWD) has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2021. The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
Last year, LMWD earned this award for the first time after improving methods and procedures, which Director of Finance, Eduardo Salazar began in 2018 when he took the Finance Department in a new direction to exceed standard financial reporting guidelines. It took several years, but thanks to Mr. Salazar’s leadership and the Finance team’s hard work, LMWD continues to reap the benefits, as it is being honored for a second consecutive time.
Mr. Salazar was elated at receiving this award, stating “I’m very proud to receive this prestigious award on behalf of our team and the whole organization. Our finance team has worked hard to make the necessary improvements and we continue to make enhancements in order to maintain this high level of financial reporting and transparency for LMWD.”
