Laurie owns property on South Padre Island and in Port Isabel and believes this area is fantastic for living or investing. She focuses 100% of her time working with Buyers like you that want a professional Realtor that is constantly looking at new properties and studying the market for her clients. She is unique in that she only represents buyers which is a huge advantage for aL buyers.
Laurie’s experience in real estate began in Dallas, Texas where she was the Property Manager for 450 apartment units and two six-story office towers. She also handled her own residential investments while serving as Sr. Vice President of the Pan American National Bank and later as Vice President of Business Development for an architectural firm. In 2005, she was invited to
join UTB/TSC to manage corporate relations and ultimately became the Executive Director of University Relations at The University of Texas at Brownsville until it closed in 2015.
Laurie Hodgson Howell was raised in Brownsville before making SMU and Dallas her home for 28 years. Laurie returned to the Valley in 1996 to assist her family in the shrimping industry. Many people know the love of her life, Darrell Mangham, who owned AirTech. Her love of animals led to her two rescued cats, Rusty and Buddy. She enjoys dolphin watching on her boat, reading, old movies, jigsaw puzzles, walking on the beach and dinners on the island and Port Isabel with friends.
Laurie has served in numerous volunteer roles over the years. Helping organize Sunshine Haven, a Special Care Facility for terminally ill residents of Cameron County has always been important to her. She was instrumental in helping build a new library in Brownsville. For five years she organized the UTB Faculty Lecture Series on South Padre Island with the support of El Paseo Arts Foundation, the City of SPI, and a number of island residents.
Currently, she is the co-chair of the College of Science Advisory Council for The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and serves on the SPI Board of REALTORS® MLS Committee.
After becoming a REALTOR® in 2015, the Padre Elite Team invited her to join them to help Buyers find the ideal home in the Laguna Madre area while learning the real estate business from seasoned professionals. Her first year resulted in over 25 real estate transactions. She achieved the RE/MAX 100% Club in her first 3 years of business and the RE/MAX Platinum Award Level in from 2019 to 2021.
