The Laguna Madre Area residents will be able to flee to Brownsville for shelter from hurricanes or any other disasters in the near future. FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) will pay 75% or $2,475,000 of the $3,300,000 project. The 25,000 sq. ft. concrete dome safe room will serve as a multi-purpose community center also. We will be interested in knowing which location they select. Learn more about FEMA’s HMGP online at http://go.usa.gov/D6D.
