We all know that Texas has the “Robin Hood” plan of funding our school districts. You will be hard pressed to find anyone that likes that plan. This year the 83rd Texas Legislators will be forced to address this once again. Our school district has joined a class action suit with other districts and Texas Association of Business against the State of Texas to revise the system.
Since this is the system we have, we are pleased that the state recently moved 23 districts from the poor to the rich column. That means fewer school districts will need the funding, while the assessment on each rich district should be lower. Right now, about 2/3 of the school districts receive money rather than give it.
We will be following the news from the 83rd Texas Legislative Session. It will be interesting and effect many real estate issues.
