Island beach park upgrade ready
HARLINGEN — A $3.75 million makeover for one of Cameron County’s most popular South Padre Island parks is ready for visitors.
E.K. Atwood County Park, better known as Beach Access No. 5, will hold a ribbon-cutting to show off the improvements at 11 a.m.Tuesday.
“The new improvements include an elevated plaza structure with five pavilions and picnic tables, restrooms, community rinse stations, two new dune walkover structures with interpretive signs, four designated parking areas for food truck concessions and other associated improvements,” said Joe E. Vega, county parks director.
Updated Property Tax Information Now Available for Texas Taxpayers
New and updated property tax information has just been compiled by Cameron County Appraisal District and is available now to assist taxpayers. This property tax information is current and covers a wide range of topics, such as taxpayer remedies, exemptions and appraisals, and has information for select groups, such as disabled veterans and persons age 65 or older.
“Whether you are a homeowner, business owner, disabled veteran or taxpayer, it’s important you know your rights concerning the property tax laws.” said Richard Molina, Chief Appraiser of the Cameron County Appraisal District. “You can contact us about any property tax issues with full confidence that we will provide you the most complete, accurate and up-to-date available information to assist you.”
Each year nominations are received from chambers of commerce and cities across the Rio Grande Valley for recognition in the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame at State Farm Arena, sponsored by the City of Hidalgo in conjunction with BorderFest. Nominees are considered for induction based on their life achievements and significant civic contributions.
The South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce nominated longtime chamber member and Island business owner Barry Patel to the RGV Walk of Fame for 2018. Patel was selected for this great honor and was recognized at the official induction ceremonies on February 28, 2018 at State Farm Arena.
Patel joins the outstanding list of SPI Chamber’s RGV Walk of Fame inductees including Troy Giles, Richard Franke, Robert N. Pinkerton, Jr., Jake Falgout, Darrell Mangham, Dan Stanton, David Friedman, Lynne Tate, Bill Donahue, Gary Meschi, JoAnn Evans, Mickey Furcron, and Jimmy Parker.
