Here’s a new way to enjoy the beach.
Claudia Espinosa, the manager of SPI Exotic Jetcars, opened up the new watersport adventure in March 2024. A jet car is a watercraft designed to look like an exotic car powered by a high-output Jetski engine. Inspired by the jet car rides in Dubai, Espinosa, who’s from McAllen, said she felt it would be a good idea to offer the attraction in South Padre Island.
With three cars (red, yellow, and white), Espinosa said the business is ready and excited for its first summer season on the island. Since opening, she’s noticed a lot of tourists being drawn to the attraction on the island. She said a lot of people from San Antonio are booking trips, as well as people from Houston, Odessa, Corpus Christi, California, and Chicago.
Espinosa said they rent the jet cars out for $200 an hour. The fleet of cars can fit two people and the recommendation for children passengers is 13 years of age and older. Younger children are permitted with a parent for a slower ride on the water. All drivers must present a valid driver’s license at check-in with a boater certificate if applicable.
The jetcars have Bluetooth and easy-to-drive, including doing a 360-turn, Espinosa said. She added it’s a fun time, especially when the dolphins come out and join the adventure.
“We get a lot of good feedback from people,” Espinosa said. “They are saying it’s exciting and how they have a great time. It’s a thrilling experience.”
