The South Padre Island City Council approved issuing a 30-year bond, at $2.3 million per year, to finance the long-discussed renovation and expansion of the South Padre Island Convention Centre.
The City is ready to enter into the design and development phase. They have already received schematic deliverables, code analysis, structural designs, 3-D models and master documents.
Dennis Barrett says
We don’t have the money to fix our existing problems and they want to do this? Did I vote for these city council members? Instead, if we’re spending money like there’s no tomorrow, buy up the empty lots near gulf blvd so that they can be used as parking for our visitors? They are all on board for charging for parking, give them parking in which to do this with. These new convention center plans is nothing more than a sinkhole …….
